SUMMARY:U.S. Thanksgiving Day
DESCRIPTION:U.S. Thanksgiving Day\n  \nThanksgiving Day is a day for people in the US to give thanks for what they have. Families and friends get together for a meal. \nThe tradition of Thanksgiving (Good vs Bad)\nThe custom of giving thanks for the annual harvest is one of the world’s oldest celebrations and can be traced back to the dawn of civilization. \nHowever\, it is not commonly a major modern event and arguably the success of the American holiday has been due to it being seen as a time to give ‘thanks’ for the foundation of the nation and not just as a celebration of the harvest. \nIt’s also important to recognized that many Native Americans do not celebrate the arrival of the Pilgrims and other European settlers. To them\, Thanksgiving Day is a reminder of the genocide of millions of their people\, the theft of their lands\, and the relentless assault on their cultures. \n  \nPlease consider supporting the following organization centered around families in the US:

SUMMARY:World Day Against Trafficking in Persons
DESCRIPTION:World Day Against Trafficking in Persons\nWorking on the front lines to end human trafficking\nThis year\, we will focus on the first responders to human trafficking. These are the people who work in different sectors – identifying\, supporting\, counselling and seeking justice for victims of trafficking\, and challenging the impunity of the traffickers. \nDuring the COVID-19 crisis\, the essential role of first responders has become even more important\, particularly as the restrictions imposed by the pandemic have made their work even more difficult. Still\, their contribution is often overlooked and unrecognized. \nThrough stories from first responders describing their practical work in assisting victims we intend to spotlight their contribution and that of their function\, institution\, organization\, team\, or community and its impact on fighting trafficking. The key messages focus on the positive\, recognizing the importance of the work done by first responders\, as well as seeking support and raising awareness that these actions need to be sustained and replicated. The stories will also highlight how first responders remained committed during the pandemic. \nGet involved by joining the conversation and using the hashtags #EndHumanTrafficking and #HumanTrafficking on all digital platforms. \n  \nSource: https://www.un.org/en/observances/end-human-trafficking-day \n

SUMMARY:Remembrance Day
DESCRIPTION:Remembrance Day\n  \nRemembrance Day is observed in Canada (and other Commonwealth nations\, which include 53 member states\, nearly all of them former territories of the British Empire) on November 11. It carries much of the same meaning as America’s Veterans Day. Celebrated since the end of WWI\, Remembrance Day actually marks Armistice Day — the day on which the hostilities between the Allies and Germany ceased on the Western Front. \n  \nHistory: \nAt 11 A.M. on November 11\, 1918\, the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare.  The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month attained a special significance in the post-war years.  Remembrance Day in Canada\, known as “Jour du Souvenir”. \nCanada has declared that the date is of “remembrance for the men and women who have served\, and continue to serve our country during times of war\, conflict and peace\,” particularly the First and Second World Wars\, the Korean War\, and all conflicts since then in which members of the Canadian Armed Forces have participated.

SUMMARY:Seychelles Independence Day
DESCRIPTION:Seychelles Independence Day\n  \nIndependence (National) Day in Seychelles is observed on 29 June in commemoration of the islands’ independence from the British Empire in 1976. 18 June had been called National Day in Seychelles prior to 2015. But now\, that date is celebrated as Constitution Day. \nIndependence was long in coming to Seychelles\, which perhaps\, makes the islanders value it the more. Before European colonisers arrived\, Seychelles traded valuable coco de mer nuts with Arab traders\, and the island were briefly sighted by the Portuguese in the early 1500’s. However\, it was not until the 1700’s that France finally colonised the islands\, also bringing in African slave labour. \nThe British took control of Seychelles in the early 1800’s. They abolished slavery in 1835\, and also brought freed slaves rescued off Arab trading vessels to settle on the islands. It wasn’t until the 1960’s that a real independence movement sprang up\, and after overwhelming support for independence in the 1974 election\, Britain agreed to let Seychelles go free on 29 June\, 1976.
