Keeping the conversation alive – aligning with Charitable Impact

Keep-the-conversation-alive

In the aftermath of racial inequality made more visible by many recent events and swift responses, I have been engaged in numerous discussions with foundations, organizations, businesses, groups and individuals. Their common thread: wishing to make a real and tangible impact within the Black Community.

The scope of the work needed to affect real change in so many layers of society requires a well-coordinated collective effort. The Black community cannot do it alone. This issue can be and should be approached from many different angles. This is why we need to work together, be open, explore different ideas and listen to new voices.

It’s been nice to hear allies discuss these issues as if it were their own. There is definitely a change in this conversation this time around.

This is why I really appreciate organizations like Charitable Impact, who have quickly recognized the need to increase visibility of Black Charities in Canada. It’s a great example of an establishment using its platform to raise awareness.  They started an initiative called #ChooseYourImpact, where Individuals are selected as Impact Ambassadors for their engagement and passion for a particular cause.  They are called to create an Impact Portfolio, which is a group of charities hand-picked for their proven ability to drive significant change in that specific area.

I was invited to be part of their #ChooseYourImpact Campaign as an Impact Ambassador for the Black Community in Canada.

In my role as an Impact Ambassador, I’m particularly delighted to help guide donors, provide them with confidence in donating to organizations that have a proven track record serving the Black Community in several Canadian urban cities.  Tangible outcome is that 2 funds were created:

Black Community Support Fund

Black Community Housing Fund

I feel that I‘m uniquely qualified to fill the role of Impact Ambassador because I understand the challenges of Black organizations from having worked in the field for the last 5 years including my work with SupportBlackCharities. I made it a point to educate myself on the different issues and challenges in most urban cities especially in Canada, where I’m from.

My experience and my involvement with SBC have given me a distinct perspective on the charitable sector, from the inner workings of an organization to the viewpoint of a supporter and a donor.

As the dust settles in the world after 5 weeks of persistent Anti-Racism protests, my goal is to continue to fight and keep the conversation focused on this subject, by positioning myself as a resource and advocate for Black charitable organizations and the communities they serve.

It’s through meaningful partnerships, like the one with Charitable Impact, that I recognize the power of aligning yourself with allies.

I’m now openly and actively looking to build relationships with Foundations, Giving Circle, businesses, corporations, other organizations and individuals as I continue to expand my reach, spread my message of compassion and philanthropy while helping individuals and organizations in their service to the Black communities.

As the topics of racism and discrimination become regular parts of everyday conversations, I wish to continue using my voice and platform to discuss solutions.

The future is looking brighter! I’m happy that Support Black Charities will be playing an important part not only in Canada but worldwide.

Let’s keep the conversation alive!
