Covid has forever impacted how we do many things; wearing masks is more common, working from home has become more acceptable and fundraising has become digital. Here are a variety of ways that you can continue raising funds for your non-profit safely and creatively.
Ideas for fundraising during a pandemic
Before you dive into trying these ideas out, it would be best if you first take some time to create a fundraising strategy. Incorporating these ideas into said fundraising strategy will produce much better results than just using these ideas in isolation.
Virtual/ Online events:
1. Online store/ online auction
People love being a part of a community, and one way they can show that is by wearing and using branded apparel and merchandise. Unleash your creativity with a fun design that reflects your mission and values. You can then use this design on a wide array of products. You can decide to auction these products, or you can sell the items in your online store. By buying your merchandise, not only will people support your cause, but they’ll also help spread the word about your nonprofit every time they wear or use the item.
2. Online watch party
A watch party is a social gathering held to watch a particular event or program on television. The pandemic has made online watch parties extremely popular. You can tap into this trend by using this idea to host a virtual talent show or your virtual gala. You can also use this idea to showcase a movie or documentary relevant to your organization’s mission.
3. Livestreams
Livestreaming during a virtual event is a great way to engage with your audience in real-time. You can use this as an opportunity to inject a human touch into your organisation’s image by doing a Q&A, taking people behind the scenes or by showing them how donations are used. You can also give your audience a virtual tour of your organization.
4. Trivia night
Many people enjoy flexing their smarts; it’s why trivia nights are often popular. You can do something similar, virtually. You can charge an entry fee to participate and encourage additional donations throughout the night. Encourage people to join by offering prizes. Add a theme, preferably something related to your organization, to spice things up.
Socially Distant Outdoor events:
Always check your local restrictions before holding a fundraising event that might involve contact with or proximity to other people. If multiple people will be close to each other, make sure that masks and hand sanitiser are available.
1 . Dog Walking
Have volunteers offer to walk the dogs of members within your community for a small fee. This could reduce the stress levels of dog owners who are isolated or have to work long hours from home.
2. Group exercise
Whether it’s yoga, tai chi or aerobics, outdoor exercise has many benefits; it’s a natural antidepressant, it lowers blood pressure and reduces stress. Something I am sure something all of us could need as we ride the waves of the pandemic. These benefits in conjunction with the feeling of donating to a cause you care about can bring happiness to many people. This is a great idea to add to your fundraising strategy!
