#GivingTuesday is today an event celebrated nationally and locally around the world.

Last year, $3.1 billion of critical support for communities and causes was donated in just 24 hours during the annual global celebration of generosity, as reported on GivingTuesday.org.

1 – What is Giving Tuesday?

#GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement that encourages people and organizations to transform their communities and the world by doing good. It was created in 2012 as a simple idea to inspire greater giving and cultivate a culture of generosity worldwide. Since then, it has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

#GivingTuesday activities have been tracked in every country and territory in the world, and more than 80 of these countries are home to official national localized #GivingTuesday movements of their own.

2 – What is the Global Black Philanthropy Initiative (GBPI)?

The Global Black Philanthropy Initiative (GBPI) is a platform that allows people to donate to organizations that are directly and actively making a global impact on the Black community. The charitable organizations have been vetted and are all listed in Support Black Charities (SBC)’ online directory.  GBPI was created by SBC to disrupt the way people give but also to directly support the amazing, Black-led organizations on their platform.

GBPI was launched to foster collective giving for a sustainable future during Black Philanthropy Month, which took place in August 2023. All nonprofit organizations listed within the Support Black Charities (SBC) directory are categorized under one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as defined by the United Nations. By using the SDGs’ framework, you can choose the impact you want to have on the Black community and donate to the chosen category, essentially impacting many.
