Canadian Multiculturalism Day
Canadian Multiculturalism Day
📅 June 27: Canadian Multiculturalism Day 🇨🇦🌍
A celebration of the mosaic that makes this country vibrant, resilient, and beautifully complex.
🎯 Origin & Purpose
Established in 2002 by the Government of Canada, this day recognizes the rich diversity of cultures that shape Canadian society. It’s a moment to uplift inclusion, equity, and shared belonging across all communities.
📊 Did You Know?
🔹 Canada is home to more than 250 ethnic origins.
🔹 Black Canadians have contributed to Canada’s identity since the days of the Underground Railroad.
🔹 The Black population in Canada is as diverse as the continent and islands we descend from—and we are not a monolith.
🖤 Why This Matters for the Black Community
At SBC, we know multiculturalism is a strength. Our directory includes Black-led organizations from 18+ countries and representing 21+ ethnicities—each with their own stories, flavors, sounds, and languages.
From jollof rice to rice & peas, from Afrobeats to reggae, from Creole to Twi, from patois to French, the African and Caribbean diasporas offer vibrant and distinct cultures that are deeply woven into the Canadian identity—across provinces and generations.
Support Black-led orgs from 18+ countries and 21+ ethnicities doing the work in Canada and beyond. Explore their stories. Learn their history. Share their impact.
📢 This Multiculturalism Day, let’s celebrate the variety within the culture, not just diversity on paper.
