FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Support Black Charities (SBC) Launches Global Black Philanthropy Initiative (GBPI) to Champion Sustainable Development Goals just in time for Black Philanthropy Month

Toronto, Ontario, Canada – July 31, 2023 – Support Black Charities (SBC), a Canadian registered nonprofit organization based in Toronto, is thrilled to announce the launch of the Global Black Philanthropy Initiative (GBPI) on August 1st, 2023. GBPI represents a new model for rethinking philanthropy in the Black community, specifically for the 130 member organizations listed on their vetted,  online directory, representing 20 countries.

GBPI is a month-long online fundraising event that harnesses the power of collective and focused giving, leveraging the emerging giving movement during Black Philanthropy Month (August) and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

Despite the existence of Black philanthropy for generations, disparities in revenues and assets for Black-led organizations persist. GBPI acknowledges the critical role of racial equity in the current giving landscape and is committed to advancing the needs of the Black community through strategic partnerships, collaborations, dedicated giving, and collective action while promoting race-conscious giving.

Through the GBPI, SBC aims to recognize the accomplishments of its member organizations working towards the 17 SDGs. For the launch of this initiative, SBC has categorized every organization under the appropriate SDG that it most closely aligns with or supports.

We believe that by championing sustainability and supporting Black-led nonprofit organizations that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, we can create a more equitable and sustainable future.” said Anick Silencieux, Executive Director of Support Black Charities.

GBPI offers a creative and innovative approach to giving where donors are encouraged to donate to a specific SDG category instead of any one singular organization.

This initiative aims to disrupt the current giving structure as the donation will impact not only one organization, but all the organizations categorized under a given SDG, allowing the donor to make an instant impact in a variety of sectors and in many countries at the same time.

The funds raised will be distributed equally to all the nonprofit organizations championing that specific SDG after administrative costs are deducted.

GBPI invites individuals, businesses, philanthropists, nonprofits, and community organizations to join its global movement and advance the needs of the Black community through strategic giving and collective action.

To participate in GBPI and support sustainability, everyone can:

  • Visit GBPI website from August 1st to August 31st.
  • Choose and click on one of the 17 SDGs that aligns closest with their values, interests, or passion.
  • Donate to the selected SDG. and instantly make a Global Impact!

Support Black Charities (SBC) is dedicated to ensuring that no organization on their directory gets left behind. As a nonprofit organization itself, SBC recognizes that its success is intertwined with the success of its member organizations.

Consequently, during the month of August, all organizations listed on SBC’s directory, categorized under the appropriate SDG, will have the opportunity to benefit directly from GBPI’s success and the generosity of the public.

We are thrilled to provide a platform that recognizes and amplifies the impact of Black-led nonprofit organizations in every sector all over the world while fostering collective giving for sustainable change during Black Philanthropy Month.” said Anick Silencieux.
