Why are newsletters effective at supporting your communication?

A newsletter is a cost-effective way of building relationships and regularly communicating with clients, customers, and business partners. They often contain important information, news, promotions, or updates your audience might be interested in.

Newsletter content ideas for Nonprofits

1. Share your organization’s story

Whether through an internal company newsletter or an external newsletter shared with donors and clients, a genuine story about how your organization came to be, elicits emotions and cultivates a deeper connection.

Use different storytelling methods in order to share your organization’s values, mission, and motivations.

Storytelling helps you strengthen your brand message; stories give your brand more depth.

2. Thank donors

Expressing gratitude to those that have helped you along your journey is very important, much more so when it comes to showing appreciation to donors.

Here are four reasons why you should thank your donors:

  • Strengthen donor relationships
  • Increase donor retention
  • Encourage donors to give more
  • Inspire others to give

Thanking donors helps them feel noticed, appreciated, and connected to your organization and its mission. This increases the likelihood that donors will continue donating, and it increases the likelihood of them recommending your organization to a friend or family member that seeks to donate to a cause.

3. Talk about volunteers

Looking to draw in more volunteers? Speak about the current volunteers that are helping your organization and the volunteer culture at your NGO.

According to “volpro.net,” “there are six motivations that drive people to volunteer; values, social, protective motives, understanding, career, and enhancement.” By understanding and deducing which motivations your target audience is driven by, you will be able to create content that speaks to those motivations, and therefore content that speaks to your target audience.

4. Your nonprofit staff

Now that you know why it’s important to show love to your donors, you need to show the same gratitude to your staff. They are some of the most integral members of your crew. Show them that you value their hard work by shining a spotlight on their accomplishments, and celebrating what they have done for your organization. Doing this boosts morale and motivates staff to continue doing what they need to do.

5. Show your organization’s achievements

Showing off your organization’s achievements is a good way of showing exactly what separates your organization from others within your niche. Use research and infographics to show your readers how your organization has impacted the lives of the people you’re helping and fighting for.

6. Upcoming events

If your organization hosts frequent events, adding this section to your newsletter is a great way to keep your readers up-to-date on any events coming up soon.

7. Gallery of previous events

Celebrate the completion of an event by thanking attendees for their participation, and by sharing highlights. Showcase photos from the event; whether online or in a newsletter. By doing this you will pique the curiosity of people who were unable to attend; they will want to check out what they missed and will be more likely to come to future events.

8. Q&A

People will always have questions about your organization. They might want some key questions answered before they decide to donate to your cause. Sate their curiosity by having a Q&A section. This offers valuable information to readers.
